Influencers That Are Worth Following

By Róisín Kearns

‘I’ve decided to take a break from social media.’

This is definitely a sentence we are all very familiar with. Of course, we all should take social media breaks from time to time. Sometimes we need to take a step back to remember that none of it really matters. Nevertheless, if you find yourself associating social media with toxicity and constantly feeling down after scrolling through your Instagram feed, it’s likely that you aren’t following the right kind of people.

We should be selective about who we give our attention to online. We have to remember that we’re all different. What one person loves, the next person might not be able to relate to at all. It can be fun to explore new pages and see what suits you! I’ve compiled together a list of accounts that are worth following on Instagram.

Mental Health Advocators

@carolinecroke

Caroline’s page is very diverse, ranging from sustainable fashion to fitness to mental health. Caroline openly speaks about her own journey regarding her mental health and the struggles she has dealt with.  The rainbow enthusiast radiates positive energy through your phone screen.

@vikkishandon

Vikki’s mindset chats on her stories and reels are definitely worth watching! They include very helpful tips and tricks to improve your mood and mindset. Vikki’s enchanting, infectious smile and ‘Big Vik Energy’ alone would make you feel happier!

Gaeilge

@muinteoirmeg

If you’re into fashion and are looking to incorporate a bit more Gaeilge onto your Instagram feed, Múinteoir Meg is the one for you! Meg shares everything from fashion and food to fitness. You’ll find yourself learning cúpla focail without even trying!

@gaylgeoiri

Cian Griffin, the bitseach ghrúbhaí behind Gaylgeoirí, is a writer and one might even go so far as saying a professional meme creator. Here is where you’ll learn text talk as Gaeilge and caint an idirlín (internet talk). Íocónach ar fad.

Sustainability

@environmentaleadai

Moya from environmental eadaí is a ‘sustainable qween’ as well as a proud Gaeilgeoir. Moya gives tips on changing your shopping habits whether it be fashion-wise or just for life in general. You will find yourself learning about other important issues such as direct provision, as well as píosa beag Gaeilge.

@eco_mode_

Cathy gives honest reviews on sustainable products, shares fashion inspo (with the odd sustainable fashion challenge in the mix) as well as sharing plant-based recipes. Cathy’s bubbly personality and sweet nature will have you looking forward to watching her stories every day!

Fashion

@grainnebinns

The rollerskating princess, Gráinne Binns, is the one to follow on Instagram for daily outfit pictures that are out of this world. Gráinne promotes self love, being unapologetically yourself, not to forget buying yourself flowers.

@_aileenamelia

The incredibly stylish Aileen will blow you away with her clean-cut reels and aesthetically pleasing feed. Aileen shares her trademark morning manifestations, positive affirmations as well as sharing tips on full moon rituals and crystals.

Food & Fitness

@traytraycolcol

Tracey is a personal trainer and online coach, while also doing workouts on Instagram live so that anyone can get involved. That being said, if you don’t quite fancy working out, Tracey is a firm believer in enjoying yummy food and shares easy recipes, such as pancakes, pasta and blondies.

@sing_andstep_withpadraig

Last but certainly not least is 67-year old Pádraig who will just melt your heart. Pádraig has started on his journey to get fit while also attempting to go vegan for 21 days. Along with daily updates on his steps and meals, Pádraig will grace your feed with his mesmerizing lilting skills.

There’s no doubt that the internet can be a toxic place and we should all try to have a social media detox from time to time. However, with that being said, if we start to tweak the way in which we use these different platforms, the internet can turn out to be a very positive, uplifting and educational place.
